Hi, I’m James Osterlund, a piano teacher and performer passionate about making music approachable and enjoyable for everyone. My musical journey started with classical training, which laid the groundwork for my later dive into jazz, rock, pop, and funk—styles that continue to shape my playing and teaching today.

After high school, where I earned recognition for my performances and compositions, I began studying a Bachelor of Music Contemporary Performance at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). This experience has deepened my understanding of music and allowed me to learn from some of the best piano educators in the country.

When I’m not teaching, I’m performing with @jam5_coverband, playing live gigs that challenge me to improvise and keep ideas fresh. These experiences feed directly into my lessons, where I aim to help students find their own creative voice. Whether it’s mastering a favourite song, learning to improvise, or building solid piano skills, I work to meet each student where they are and help them grow.
